Virtual Incision
Builds MIRA (Miniaturized In vivo Robotic Assistant), the first miniaturized robotic-assisted surgery device to receive FDA marketing authorization (De Novo pathway, February 2024, colectomy indication). The ~2 lb self-contained surgical robot is inserted through a single midline umbilical incision and is portable enough to make any OR robot-ready in minutes, versus mainframe surgical robots. Spun out of University of Nebraska research by Shane Farritor and surgeon Dmitry Oleynikov; the platform is AI-enabled (featured at NVIDIA GTC; exploring NVIDIA Isaac for Healthcare) and was used in a U.S. remote robotic-assisted surgery demonstration in November 2024 with Sovato, City of Hope and University of Illinois Chicago. Commercialization began via a First Access Program at select U.S. centers, with gynecology, general surgery and urology indications in the pipeline.
